The Fusion of Human Rights in Policing
The RIGHTS KEEPERS project is a powerful step forward in bringing human rights into everyday policing. This project is a team effort from LOUDER, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF), and the Geneva Institute for Human Rights (GIHR).
Its goal is simple yet vital: to make sure that respect and protection of human rights are integral to law enforcement in Lebanon. RIGHTS KEEPERS was recognized for its creativity and comprehensive approach at the FNF’s 60 Year Anniversary Celebration, showcasing the foundation’s commitment to progressive and digital human rights initiatives in Lebanon. This project is not just about change; it’s about making a significant difference in integrating human rights into policing standards and actions
The Rights Keepers project will develop a Training Guide, an educational tool for trainers. It covers various modules, each with its importance, objectives, and expected learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills, and action. The guide’s content covers a wide range of topics, from the basics of human rights, community policing, and codes of conduct, to the use of force and weapons, rights of suspects and detainees, and preventing torture and other cruel treatments. This comprehensive structure ensures a holistic approach to human rights education within the policing sector.
RIGHTS KEEPERS is more than just a training program. It marks a significant step forward in law enforcement training, prioritizing human rights education as a fundamental aspect of police work. This project not only improves the standards of policing in Lebanon but also serves as an example for integrating human rights principles into law enforcement globally, fostering a culture of dignity and respect for human rights.
